The 184 full-color photographs in Mathematical World stimulate curiosity and challenge students to reflect on the mathematics at work in the world around them. A related word problem accompanies each of these striking photos and invites students to think through the exciting mathematical challenges the photographs present. Depicting a wide range of intriguing everyday objects, historical artifacts, and patterns in the natural world, the images promote visual and spatial reasoning, interest in the history of mathematics, and problem-solving skills and also encourage students to explore mathematics in their own world.

Even though the disk is intended primarily for middle or high school mathematics students and teachers, its extraordinary glimpses into everyday life will fascinate both older and younger students. Using the index, teachers can search for images and problems related to their lesson for the day. The photos will be especially useful for introducing a lesson or for small group discussion. Exploring the photos and their mathematical puzzles together, students will build collaborative relationships in the classroom.
